Small Business Commissioner’s Office appoints new member

Tuesday 12th November, 2019

Yvonne Gale has been appointed as a non-executive director for finance and procurement at the Small Business Commissioner’s Office.

Following her appointment by the Business and Energy Secretary, Yvonne will hold the role until 31 October 2023.

Yvonne is Chief Executive at NEL Fund Managers Limited, an MBA Advisory Board Member at Durham University Business School and an Advisory and Decision Committee Member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund.

The Small Business Commissioner’s Office was set up by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) in December 2017 to help the UK’s 5.7 million small businesses struggling with late payments.

In October Paul Uppal stepped down from his role as Small Business Commissioner. In the meantime the BEIS is looking to appoint an interim Commissioner.

Philip King FCICM said after Paul Uppal stepped down as Small Business Commissioner, "Regardless of the people involved, the work of the SBC’s office and of the Prompt Payment Code will continue and their impact will grow rather than diminish. I am seeing a real shift in mindset in the boardrooms of some of our largest companies, and that change is demonstrated by an increased recognition that the supply chain is integral to the quality of product or service delivered".

The Small Business Commissioner supports small businesses to resolve their payment disputes with larger businesses, providing advice and helping bring about a culture change in payment practices and how businesses deal with each other.
